Information for doctors
A doctor can prescribe treatment by issuing a prescription for occupational therapy (Medicinal Products Ordinance 13, marked/issued for occupational therapy). If medically necessary and with a corresponding doctor's prescription, the costs may be covered by the health insurance company.
Prescribable occupational therapy remedies
Doctors can prescribe one of the following four remedies:
- Motor-functional treatment (e.g. for disorders of the musculoskeletal system or after orthopedic surgery)
- Neuropsychologically oriented treatment / brain performance training (e.g., for cognitive impairments after a stroke or traumatic brain injury)
- Psychological-functional treatment (e.g. for mental illnesses such as depression or anxiety disorders)
- Sensorimotor-perceptual treatment (e.g., for developmental delays, perceptual disorders, or neurological disorders)
These forms of therapy differ in terms of the methods used, objectives and duration of therapy.
Note: Detailed information on the admissibility of medicinal products can be found in the medicinal products catalogue.
